Four Generations at the Beach

Last week we rented a big house on the beach in St. Augustine Florida.  There were 8 adults, 3 kids under the age of 4, and a 100-lb. Yellow Lab.  We had four generations of folks from my family–my mom, two of my kids and all of my grandkids, and some spouses and family friends.  It’s no wonder that I haven’t had time to do a blog post in awhile!

We found our house on HomeAway.com.  We were lucky to find this big house directly on the beach, not far from the St. Augustine Beach pier.  We could walk to the pier and Splash Park.  It was a short drive into the Old Town of St. Augustine (oldest city in the US.)  The house was huge and there were a lot of kid toys.  We had slides, swings, wading pools, boogie boards, and a surfboard.  When it wasn’t too hot we spent a lot of time on the upper deck looking at the ocean.

After a couple of days, everyone settled into their routines.  Mine was to be lazy all day, ride a bike or go swimming in the ocean after supper, and then sit in the hot tub with a glass of wine watching the sunset.

We took turns cooking dinner, so the work and cost was minimal.  Since everyone in the family was going, we had to take the dog.  Fortunately dogs were allowed at this rental, so he got his nightly walks on the beach as well.

There are several historic areas in St. Augustine that are worth exploring, and the major streets have bike paths.  It was a great place to spend a week with the whole family.
