Cost of Living on a Princess Cruise Ship–the Caribbean Princess

The cost to cruise on the Caribbean Princess for the month of January 2017 is about $265 per day for two people.  This is based on prices on the Princess web site in March 2016.

I’ve been interested in the costs of long-term cruise travel, and I would like to know the least expensive way to cruise on a long term basis.  I’ve done several posts with this theme already, but  I knew I would be looking at Princess eventually.  On an Alaska cruise on the Coral Princess, I met a couple who had been on board for a couple of weeks, and planned to stay on for the rest of the season (9 more weeks!).  And one of my favorite bloggers PescadoAmarillo cruises for months at a time on Princess ships.

My introductory post in this series is How Much Does It Cost to Live on a Cruise Ship?  where I talk about several people who’ve given me inspiration for this investigation.

The second post in the series looks at the costs of living on a Carnival ship for a month.  In this post I discuss my methodology, and determine the price per night for some cheaper Carnival cruises out of Miami.

The third post compares the cost of cruising on a Royal Caribbean ship.

The most recent post in this series looked at similar itineraries on a Norwegian cruise ship

Finding Princess Cruises Based on Price per Night

I looked at the Vacations to Go website for Princess cruises that left from Miami or Fort Lauderdale in January of 2017.  The three ships–the Caribbean Princess, the Regal Princess, and the Royal Princess all sail from Fort Lauderdale in January of 2017.  In this post I will look at the cost of spending January on the Caribbean Princess.  I will look at costs on the Regal Princess and Royal Princess in subsequent posts.  The cruise costs and itineraries are directly from the Princess cruises web site.

Yes, I know that Roatan is on the map, but the listed itinerary does not include it.  If you stay on the Caribbean Princess, you will repeat some ports, but you do have some additional new ports on two of the cruises.

Here are the costs for cruising from January 6 through February 4, a total of 30 days.  I’ve included the suggested gratuities at $12.95 per day per person.

The per diem cost for two people is $265.30.

Here are our cost comparisons per day for two, so far across 4 different cruise lines:

Carnival                   $189

Royal Caribbean     $235

Norwegian              $285 (but includes drink package)

Princess                  $265.30

Next we’ll look at living on the Regal Princess for a month.
