My little project “My Virtual Cruise Life” got put on hold as we got swept away in searching for and getting a boat under contract.
In this second installment of my virtual cruise life, I’ve decided to add a Norwegian Spirit round-trip cruise from Rome. I’ve also investigated the costs and logistics of getting from Copenhagen to the Port of Rome at Civitavecchia.
My newest blog project is to plan a summer of Mediterranean travel using last-minute cruise bookings interspersed with land travel. I want to see what the ratio of land/sea travel would turn out to be, and to come up with an approximate cost.
Several cruise lines are offering cruises that visit Cuba. They vary widely in price as well as the number of days actually spent in Cuban ports. I’m wondering if it is finally time for us to take a cruise to Cuba.
You can save a little money by waiting until the last minute to book the Sky. The new per diem cost for two people is $259 a day, down from a high of $293/day in June. One of the itineraries has sold out in the cheapest inside category, but balcony cabins are still available.
It now costs about $293 a day for two people to sail on the Norwegian Sky in January 2017. The per diem cost has gone up $8 a day due to an increase in taxes, port fees, and gratuities. The base price of the cruises has not changed since my first post in February.

There was plenty of good entertainment on board the Norwegian Jewel during our recent Mexican Riviera cruise. All of the cruise line cost cutting measures that we have seen so much of lately haven’t extended to Norwegian’s entertainment budget, as we were pleased to note.
